Sunday, October 27, 2019, Marrakech will be the first city in the Maghreb to host an IRONMAN. Athletes from all over the world will take part in this major competition.
Ironman is the name of the longest triathlon. It extends over no less than 226 kilometres.
The competition is a multidisciplinary race consisting of a 3.8 km swim, 180.2 km cycle and a 42.195 km marathon.
The name given to this discipline is better understood: only accomplished athletes can resist this shock treatment.
On the morning of the competition, participants will set off into the calm waters of Lake Lalla Takerkoust for the first part of the race. At this time of year, the water temperature is about 20°C.
They will then follow the bike tour, passing through the Berber village of Tahanaout and the green meadows of the Ourika Valley against the backdrop of the snow-covered peaks of the Atlas Mountains. The route is closed to traffic during the race.
Finally, the race is organized in 2 loops in the heart of the ochre city until the finish line erected within the famous international automobile circuit Moulay El Hassan.
In addition to the event, organizers offer a wide range of events including IronGirl and IronKids races.
While most of those who read these lines will experience intense fatigue at the mere statement of events, some will have the courage to try this almost superhuman competition. They deserve our encouragement, to say the least.
